Bora Hong is a multidisciplinary designer, artist, and curator.
She earned her BA in Fiber Art from Kyungwon University (now Gachon University) in South Korea before working as an interior designer in Seoul. Seeking to explore the intersection of art and design, she pursued a second BA in Product Design at Central Saint Martins in London, followed by an MA in Contextual Design at the Design Academy Eindhoven in the Netherlands.During her MA, Bora developed a narrative-driven approach to her work, with her graduation project, Cosmetic Surgery Kingdom, gaining significant attention from galleries and media. Her works have since been exhibited internationally, including at the Van Abbe Museum (Netherlands), MUDAC Museum (Switzerland), and design events like Dutch Design Week, Milan Design Festival, and London Design Week. In 2013, she was selected as one of four young designers for the Dutch Minister of Education, Culture, and Science’s annual collection.Bora’s practice focuses on design as a tool to address social issues and facilitate cross-cultural collaborations. She founded the Here and There project, which began at Chiang Mai Design Week in 2016 and later expanded to Seoul and Bangkok. This initiative brings together local and international creators to explore cultural exchange through workshops, exhibitions, and lectures.
As co-founder of the Open Creative School (OCS) in Berlin, Bora connects design students with professionals across Europe and Asia through innovative, pop-up workshops. She has also led forward-thinking programs at institutions like Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok.
Currently based in Chiang Mai, Bora continues to bridge art, design, and craft across cultures through her work at Pa Rang Cafe & Art Stay and Thapae East, fostering collaboration among diverse creators.
