Bora Hong is a designer and curator who works with diverse materials. She earned a BA in Fiber Art from Kyungwon University (now Gachon University) in South Korea and initially worked as an interior designer. To find her unique voice between art and design, she pursued a BA in Product Design at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London. She later completed an MA in Contextual Design at the Design Academy Eindhoven in the Netherlands, where her thesis project, Cosmetic Surgery Kingdom, received significant attention from galleries and media.
Her works have been showcased at prominent venues such as the Van Abbe Museum (Netherlands), MUDAC Museum (Switzerland), Dutch Design Week, Milan Design Festival, and London Design Week. In 2013, she was selected as one of four young designers for the Dutch Minister of Education, Culture, and Science's annual collection.
Bora focuses on fostering teamwork in design, art, creative education, and curation. Her work explores how design can address social issues and encourages experimental exchanges of knowledge between artists and audiences. She curates exhibitions and workshops that highlight not only finished products but also the design process itself as a means of understanding complex problems.
One of her notable projects, Here and There, started at Chiang Mai Design Week in 2016 and later expanded to Seoul and Bangkok. It facilitates cultural exchange between local and international creators, resulting in collaborative exhibitions, workshops, and lectures.
She is also the co-founder of Open Creative School (OCS) in Berlin, a pop-up platform connecting design and art students with professionals from Europe and Asia. Currently based in Chiang Mai, she organizes programs at Thapae East and Pa Rang Cafe & Art Stay, creating spaces where artists from various fields can collaborate and share their work.
